A Word About Sterling Silver

Silver is a soft, white, highly reflective precious metal, second only to gold in malleability. To increase hardness and strength it is alloyed (fused) with another metal, usually copper or nickel. Due to common skin allergies to nickel, our Thai silver uses copper as its alloy. To be deemed Sterling it must be composed of 925 parts per thousand of pure silver. In fact, jewellery from Thailand may be up to 97% pure, and may be referred to as ‘pure’ or ‘Thai’ silver. Talis stamps all its jewellery as 925 Sterling Silver. Our earrings are often much purer therefore not stamped 925.

Care Recommendations

It is recommended to store silver jewellery in a felt or zip lock bag, to keep it from oxidizing. This way, every time you wear your silver jewellery it will be bright and you will not have to shine it as often.

Silver will tarnish over time. We recommend using silver polishing cloths, instead of silver dips or harsh chemicals. Polishing cloths brighten the raised surfaces while maintaining the visibility of the darkened intricate detail.

For a more natural way to clean your silver:

  • Line a pan with aluminum foil.
  • Place jewellery on aluminum foil. All parts of your jewellery must touch the foil.
  • Add 2-3 inches of nearly boiling water over jewellery, just to cover.
  • Liberally sprinkle baking soda over the silver parts. Baking soda will "bubble". Leave for 5-10 minutes.
  • Rinse jewellery thoroughly with warm water.
  • Dry with a soft cloth.

Store your jewellery in a zip-locked plastic bag.

Avoid getting chemicals on your jewellery like chlorine, hairspray and perfume.
